Motorcycle Collision Sends Bike Airborne, Leaves It Hanging From Traffic Signal in Canada Intersection Chaos
A motorcycle collision in Delta, British Columbia, left one rider seriously injured and caused the bike to become suspended from a traffic signal pole above a busy intersection. The dramatic Saturday afternoon crash near Surrey led to road closures, emergency response operations, and viral footage capturing the unusual aftermath.
Police reported that the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital following the crash, which occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Surrey–Delta border. The incident took place when a motorcycle collided with a silver sedan in Delta, a southern suburb of Vancouver.
The collision occurred just before 3 pm Pacific Time, prompting emergency response teams to the 7100-block of Scott Road at the intersection of 72nd Avenue and 120th Street. Authorities confirmed that the impact left the rider critically injured and caused major disruption in the area.
In a highly unusual development, the motorcycle was thrown from the roadway and became lodged and suspended from an overhead traffic signal pole, hanging above the intersection by its front wheel. Viral footage circulating on social media captured the striking scene, showing the motorcycle dangling above traffic while emergency crews worked at the location.
Witnesses described shock and disbelief at the positioning of the vehicle. One bystander, identified as Chan, stated that after noticing a damaged car in the middle of the intersection, he initially searched for the second vehicle involved in the crash. He then observed the motorcycle suspended overhead, describing the scene as “crazy” and unexpected.
Chan further added that after witnessing the aftermath, he chose to remain at the site to observe the recovery operation, stating interest in how emergency personnel would safely bring the motorcycle down.
Another witness, Jevon Ryan, expressed difficulty comprehending the trajectory of the motorcycle, noting that while one might expect it to land on sidewalks or nearby businesses, it instead became perfectly entangled around the traffic signal structure. He described the situation as remarkable and difficult to explain.
As emergency responders worked to secure and remove debris, authorities closed Scott Road between 70th Avenue and 72nd Avenue. The closure was implemented to facilitate the safe removal of both the damaged vehicles and to restore order at the intersection.
The incident, widely shared through videos and photographs, drew large crowds of onlookers who recorded the scene as emergency teams managed traffic and recovery operations in the heavily disrupted area.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities assess the circumstances leading to the collision and the extraordinary positioning of the motorcycle following impact.
